On the frontlines: Indigenous resistance, land defense and climate change in Ecuador
Join us for a conversation with human rights and land defenders, Ivonne Yanez and Mirian Cisneros about climate justice and Indigenous resistance to fossil fuel extraction in Ecuador.
Ivonne Yanez is a founding member of Acción Ecológica, one of the most well-known and respected climate justice organizations in Latin America and also Oilwatch, an oil activities resistance network. Ivonne works on energy, climate change and, more recently, environmental services. She has been an active promoter of the Keep the Oil in the Soil campaign for many years, with Yasuni as the emblematic case.
Mirian Cisneros is a daughter of the Sarayaku Kichwa peoples and is the former president of the Sarayaku community. For over forty years, she has been defending human and environmental rights and has participated in local, national, and international events for the protection of Mother Earth. She represents the many Indigenous women who are leaders in the struggles of the Kichwa peoples in the Amazon.
