On September 23, the International Criminal Court in The Hague will hold a historic hearing on crimes against humanity charges against former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. This moment represents a vital step toward justice for the thousands of victims of Duterte’s brutal “war on drugs.” KAIROS stands in solidarity with survivors, victims’ families and our partners in the Philippines, calling for truth, accountability and an end to impunity. From September 1 to October 4, join Christians and people of conscious worldwide in celebrating the Season of Creation under the theme “Peace with Creation.” Together we will learn, pray and act for ecological and climate justice, responding to God’s call for hope, repentance and renewal. From community worship to bold public witness, this global movement invites us to deepen our care for the Earth and one another.

Join For the Love of Creation for a special online session during the Season of Creation. On September 10 at 6:00 p.m. EDT, four practitioners—Keri Wehlander, KAIROS’ Murray Pruden, Becca Whitla and Wendy Janzen—will guide us in reflection and practice, exploring ways to sustain hope, prayer, reconciliation and action in caring for Creation.

On July 28, church and ecumenical leaders wrote to the Prime Minister once more, urging the government to act decisively to end the horrible suffering and violence in Gaza. In their letter, the leaders requested a meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss immediate and concrete steps to uphold human rights and international law. We await his response.

Pascal Kabungulu, former Executive Secretary of Héritiers de la Justice in the DRC, was assassinated 20 years ago for his fearless commitment to human rights. Today, KAIROS’ Danielle Kamtié remembers his life and legacy and how his courage continues to inspire defenders of truth and justice.

From June 12–15, more than 100 pilgrims, activists and changemakers from Canada and beyond gathered at Ambrose University in Calgary for the G7 Jubilee People’s Forum. Over four days of prayer, learning and interfaith solidarity, participants united in calling on G7 leaders to cancel unjust financial and ecological debt and to build a more equitable, sustainable future.

On August 9, KAIROS celebrated the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples and its theme “Indigenous Youth as Agents of Change for Self-Determination.” In her blog, KAIROS’ Brandi Bilodeau honours the vision and leadership of Indigenous youth—from revitalizing languages and defending land and water, to renewing cultural practices through ancestral knowledge. Amid ongoing colonial challenges and urgent calls for justice, their resilience stands as our collective path toward reconciliation, rights and a sustainable future.

In June, KAIROS marked Indigenous Peoples History Month through a series of reflections that honour the vibrant cultures, resilience, and leadership of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. From treaty truths and language revival to Inuit climate leadership and Métis symbols of resistance, each reflection uplifts Indigenous voices, histories and responsibilities—inviting us all to listen, learn and act.

On July 30—the International Day Against Trafficking in Persons—and every day, KAIROS Canada urges bold action against exploitation embedded in our systems. That includes ending closed work permits, opposing oppressive immigration laws, and defending community leaders like Rev. Rosalind Wanyeki. Because dignity is non-negotiable—nobody should be left behind.

In July, Silvia Vasquez-Olguin of KAIROS was in Bogotá with women activists from the Amazon to Mexico to celebrate the 20th anniversary of La RED—Latin America's Network of Women Defenders of Social and Environmental Rights, a KAIROS partner. Silvia writes how the women drew strength from shared stories of resilience, resource struggles and environmental justice. Through this continental embrace, Silvia captures deep solidarity, wisdom and the courage of women holding hands across lands and generations.

For many years, Canadian companies have been linked to widespread violations of human rights, including workers’ rights, as well as serious environmental destruction throughout their global operations and supply chains. On Friday, September 26 at noon, join members of the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability on Parliament Hill in Ottawa as they rally in solidarity with impacted communities around the world to change the systems that enable corporate impunity.
