Canadians have elected a minority government. Collaboration is critical for the survival of Canada’s 43rd Parliament and is urgently needed to appropriately address mounting and systemic issues. Indigenous rights and wellbeing, the climate crisis, migrant justice, and support and protection for women peace builders and human rights defenders are pressing issues that are not going away. Action is required now more than ever.  

A recent visit with Philippine partners highlighted the important role grassroots women play in defending human rights and supporting peace processes in that country. It also made abundantly clear the significant risk and personal cost associated with this work.

The planet is in crisis. Over the last few weeks more than six million people, mostly youth, from around the world have mobilized under the message, “We want you to panic!” Both the analysis of this crisis and the responding movements of resistance are intersectional and inter-connected. It affects all of us.  

In its analysis of the recent mobilizations in Ecuador, KAIROS partner Acción Ecológica celebrates the organizing efforts and achievements of the Ecuadorian people, in particular Indigenous communities that refused to accept the government’s promotion of extractivism as a national economic savior.

Héritiers de la Justice

KAIROS partner Héritiers de la Justice works to diffuse violence and lay the groundwork for lasting peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It provides legal training, information, and mediation to promote peace and justice in the eastern region of the country.

Héritiers de la Justice’s team of women’s rights advocates, lawyers, and paralegals endeavor to bring justice for women survivors of war by documenting cases of sexual violence, accompanying women through the judicial process, and educating them on Congolese and international laws that protect their rights. The organization also advocates for policy changes to protect women and children.
