KAIROS is thrilled to launch an online hub to connect and help further empower women land and water defenders in Canada and worldwide. Called Mother Earth and Resource Extraction – or MERE Hub, the resource was developed in consultation with women at the forefront of environmental protection. The Hub launched on November 25 to mark the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence annual campaign.

KAIROS has signed on to a joint letter from members of the Canadian Council for International Cooperation calling on the government of the Philippines to end the practice of red-tagging against human rights, environmental and humanitarian organisations. We signed this letter in solidarity with our partners in the Philippines, the National Council of Churches in the Philippines, who were included on a list of “front organizations of local communist terrorist groups” by the Department of National Defense on November 5, 2019.

Wellington Water Watchers are fighting to protect water as a human right with the All Eyes on Nestle Campaign. We encourage you to write a letter to the Ontario Minister of the Environment or to the Premier’s office to show your support for this movement.

God listens to the children. Do we? How are we called to respond to these voices – in care and in solidarity? Listen to the Children: A Worship Resource for Justice Seekers is structured around the 8 weeks of the Epiphany season. This Epiphany worship resource includes theological reflections, prayers and a children’s reflection for each week. The voices of children, background information on justice issues and action suggestions are organized into bulletin inserts.

The KAIROS Atlantic Gathering brought together people from the Atlantic region between May 2-5, 2019 to participate, renew networks, seek justice and learn from one another. Here’s a throwback to the wonderful gathering!

Wi'am Palestinian Conflict Transformation Center

Wi’am is one of KAIROS’ Women of Courage: Women, Peace and Security program partners.

Wi’am’s programming for women includes income-generating projects, employment training, legal training, and workshops on laws that protect their rights. Women are also taught peace and political negotiation skills and offered treatment for psychological and physical wounds caused by the conflict. The organization provides a space where Palestinian communities learn about reconciliation, discuss conflict resolution, and imagine a life that is not lived under occupation.

Tales of a City by The Sea

Are your loved ones trapped behind the wall?

Tales of a City by The Sea is an award-winning play written by Samah Sabawi and directed by Rahaf Fasheh. It is the story of two people who meet and fall in love in the besieged Gaza strip, woven together from the actual experiences of people living under occupation.

The play runs at Theatre Passe Muraille (Toronto) from December 6 to 15. Learn more.
