National Council of Churches in the Philippines In mid-September, the National Council of Churches in the Philippines and the Ecumenical Voice for Human Rights and Peace in the Philippines drew more than 260 participants to an online human rights gathering that was viewed by thousands worldwide. Called the International Ecumenical Convocation on the Defense of Human Rights, the event featured a Unity Statement that urges the UN Human Rights Council to investigate rights violations in the Philippines. KAIROS joined several international church organizations and institutions in signing the statement, and continues to urge the Canadian government to support this call, with its central message: “We will bear witness, and we will keep watch.” |
