Acción Ecológica, Ecuador Widely recognized as one of the leading environmental organizations in Ecuador, Acción Ecológica works with Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and farming communities on the defence of territories, and human and environmental rights, especially related to resource extraction. Acción Ecológica has been a funded KAIROS partner since 2001 and continues to be a key partner for KAIROS’ programming on the gendered impacts of resource extraction and climate change. Thanks to this partnership, community organizations that face the expansion of the oil industry have increased knowledge, strengthened resistance and have a greater capacity to form community vigilance and monitoring committees. KAIROS recently partnered with Ivonne Yanez, a founding member and climate justice program co-ordinator of Acción Ecológica, to write an op-ed, published in Canada’s National Observer. Acción Ecológica recently started a podcast series on keeping the Oil in the Ground, focusing on stories of “Ecuador without Oil” exploitation and use. |
