Women of Courage during the pandemic: the Organización Femenina Popular (OFP) The OFP reports that the arrival of COVID-19 in Colombia’s Magdalena Medio region has compounded the issues facing women and youth. OFP staff and members are responding to the pandemic and its gendered impacts with a creativity that exemplifies their decade-long commitment to serving the women of Magdalena Medio. They use social media and messaging apps to create online psychosocial support groups that keep women connected and informed and ensure they do not feel alone or isolated. They work with community leaders to reach out to the membership online and by phone, recognizing that some members will require basic training on digital technology, specifically mobile devices. And, significantly, they have not stopped advocating for peace, regularly meeting online with other civil society organizations and networks to advance the implementation of the Colombian peace agreement. |
