September is Climate Action Month at KAIROS
 

Resiliency and hope are the driving messages of the second annual KAIROS Climate Action Month, which began on September 1. Each day this month, KAIROS will highlight an aspect of the climate crisis, sharing resources, events, stories from our members and global partners, and actions for climate justice. UN Declaration legislation needed this fall, says Indigenous rights coalition

The Coalition for the Human Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which is made up of Indigenous Nations and representative organizations, human rights groups and faith communities, including KAIROS, is urging the federal Minister of Justice to table legislation to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as soon as Parliament reconvenes.

Where is the support for the women defending land and water, Canada?

This op-ed by Gabriela Jiménez, KAIROS’ Latin America Partnerships Coordinator, was published in Canada’s National Observer on August 23, 2020. 

Despite public support for the environment, the federal government prioritizes the interests of Canada-based extractive companies which have a reputation for disregarding the rights of land and water defenders, especially Indigenous and Afro-descendant women, who do the daily, ongoing work for climate justice within and beyond the borders of this country.

Action needed to end attacks against human rights defenders in the Philippines

Zara Alvarez was a grassroots-level human rights activist, a community health worker and member of the Church People – Workers Solidarity. She demonstrated courage and commitment to justice, human rights, and faith despite red-tagging and death threats. Her assassination has sparked calls for renewed and urgent action for human rights in the Philippines.

World Week for Peace in Palestine and Israel

The World Council of Churches invites you to participate in the annual World Week for Peace in Palestine and Israel, Sept 14-21. This is a time for people of faith all over the world to join in worship and prayer for an end to the occupation and for a just peace in Palestine and Israel. This year’s theme for the World Week of Peace in Palestine and Israel is “Creative Solidarity in Common Fragility”. During the week, KAIROS and member churches will call on network members to educate, advocate and pray for peace in Palestine and Israel. We will share educational and worship materials and highlight existing partnerships and advocacy for a just peace in Palestine and Israel, including last year’s church leaders’ delegation to the region and follow up actions. Stay tuned!

Women Hold Up the Sky: African Women Rise for Climate Justice

Ravens: Messengers of Change Activity Book

This summer, KAIROS Canada and the Legacy of Hope Foundation launched Ravens: Messengers of Change, an educational resource for people of all ages that creates awareness and encourages action for reconciliation in Canada by calling on everyone to become, like ravens, messengers of change. Ravens: Messengers of Change was born out of a need to help participants of the KAIROS Blanket Exercise take their newfound understanding a step further through concrete actions on their journey as informed allies.
